You have likely read about progress on the restoration of Musser Park in the last Sunfish Lake Quarterly article. If you haven’t, it is available on the City website. We are ready for next steps.

Jim and Jeannine Nayes will host an educational meeting at their home at 42 Labyrinth Lane on Wednesday, August 26 at 7 pm. Please stop by to meet Musser Park Restoration Committee members, pick up information, ask questions, and see visuals related to this potential park restoration.

Sunfish Lake has an exciting opportunity to partner with the Minnesota Land Trust to improve Musser Park by removing invasive Amur maple and buckthorn and restoring the area to beautiful native prairie and oak savanna. This could all start as soon as this winter so please bring your questions, your neighbors, and even your children to see the vision of what could be in store for our City’s largest park. (We have both indoor and outdoor activities for kids.)

The process of restoring Musser Park began over five years ago with an idea for a “Friends of Musser Park Committee”. About two years ago the City Forester brought the Musser Park Restoration idea to a Minnesota Land Trust representative during their annual visit to the park. They were interested and they are now getting the project ready to go. Since then, there have been several meetings related to this potential restoration project with City Staff, City Tree Board, Minnesota Land Trust, Federal Fish and Wildlife Service, and at least one possible project contractor.
