SUNFISH LAKE SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING – NOVEMBER 15, 2016

3:00 P.M. - ST. ANNE’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Councilmembers: Mike Hovey, JoAnne Wahlstrom and Steven Bulach

City Clerk: Cathy Iago
Councilmember Richard Williams was absent.

1. CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Park opened the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

2. Adopt Official Canvass Results of the City of Sunfish Lake 2016 Municipal Election: City Clerk Iago presented her official canvass report memorandum dated November 15, 2016 and the Abstract of Votes Cast from the City summary statement and Dakota County Elections. She explained that the two documents exhibited the same results for the November 8, 2016 City of Sunfish Lake Municipal Election as follows:

MAYOR, PRECINCT 1 - TOTAL VOTES Richard A. Williams Jr. 309

COUNCIL, PRECINCT 1 - TOTAL VOTES Steven Bulach 297

TOTAL VOTES Daniel O’Leary 283

Number Registered Prior to Polls Opening 415

Number Registering on Election Day 22

Number New Registered Absentees 5

Total Registered Voters 442

Total Votes Cast (Polls + Absentee) 372

Percentage of Voter Turn-out 84.1%

The Clerk explained that Dakota County staff issued, counted and tallied the absentee ballots and early votes cast at the Northern Service Center in West St. Paul and that these votes are included in the vote tallies listed in her report.

Clerk Iago explained that as the legal canvassing board for the City, Council is required to formally approve the results of the election and authorize the Clerk to certify the results to Dakota County. She further advised that Council action should formalize the results by adopting the resolution which states that Richard A. Williams, Jr. is elected Mayor of Sunfish Lake for a two-year term commencing January 1, 2017 and that Steven Bulach and Daniel O’Leary are elected to the City Council for Sunfish Lake for 4-year terms commencing January 1, 2017.

The Mayor asked if there were any further questions and there was no response.

Councilmember Hovey moved to adopt Resolution No. 16-26 titled, RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS OF THE NOVEMBER 8, 2016 GENERAL ELECTION for the City of Sunfish Lake and declare that Richard A. Williams, Jr. is elected Mayor for a two-year term commencing January 1, 2017 and that Steven Bulach and Daniel O’Leary are elected to the City Council for four-year terms commencing on January 1, 2017, seconded by Councilmember Wahlstrom and carried. (4-0)

3. ADJOURN: The Mayor asked if there was any further business and there was no response.

Councilmember Hovey moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:40 p.m., seconded by Councilmember Bulach and carried. (4-0)
